DEAR MANILLA

IN DEVELOPMENT

As a child, Manilla fled Afghanistan with her family, and her childhood was marked by asylum centers, parents traumatized by the war, and the struggle to fit in a foreign country. Today, she is a prominent 29-year old humans rights activist, who has dedicated her life to promote the rights of refugee and migrants in Denmark, and women's rights in Afghanistan. Yet, as she moves restlessly between activism, her own education, friendships, and family, her tireless pursuit of justice has started to come at the expanse of herself.

Dear Manilla is an intimate and sensory portrait of a visionary woman caught between the personal and the political — where identity, kinship, love, and belonging blur. Through moments of stillness and struggle, the documentary film traces one woman’s attempt to heal herself and her family while healing the world.  â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
